Many believe that substituting private cars for buses and other means of transport will decrease traffic congestion. Personally, I agree with this statement, however, some people consider that comfort and convenience of one’s own vehicle is more important.
Slow traffic flow has become a global problem, especially in metropolises. It happened because of the significant growth of car manufactories in the previous century, which allowed many people to purchase their private vehicles. As a result, residents have gradually stopped using buses, metros, and trains as modes of transport, and it has led to chronically overcrowded roads. That is why many consider encouraging the population to consume public transport services as the main kind of commuting. Firstly, buses and trolleybuses, just like subways, have a bigger car occupancy than, for example, taxis. They also have a more environmentally friendly impact on nature and atmosphere and leave fewer exhaust fumes than private cars do.
Additionaly, some groups of people would argue. Private transport owners who value their own comfort and, probably, spend a great fraction of their budget on car maintenance would retain their status as owners. There is another example of an economic community that would reject this radical reform, and that is manufacturers. It could be unprofitable for them to close their companies and lose positions. That is why the method of involving people to use public transport is not the most effective, in my opinion.
Overall, encouraging people could dramatically transform our traffic system, but it will never be the right way to solve this burning issue, in my opinion. And I think a lot of people would share my point of view, especially if they are car owners.
