In modern society, many jobs require university qualifications. However, obtaining said qualifications is often extremely difficult. Many people argue that everyone should be allowed to enroll in any university or college program regardless of academic abilities. However, I disagree with the statement and believe otherwise instead.
When admitting students to a university, it is necessary to consider their abilities to assess if they reach a certain standard or not. This is very important, as enrolling someone incapable of basic math in a major that requires extensive math knowledge may lead to many issues. Not to mention, should famous universities like Harvard that have been pushing a challenging syllabus allow incapable students to enroll, the latter could be unable to follow said curriculum.
The education level is also the easiest for colleges to contemplate compared to activities and alike. While the latter is an important aspect when picking a student, their academic performance is also important and far easier to appraise, as their performance may be evaluated in numbers. Examinations like the SAT and the IELTS properly assess their education level based on a globally accepted scale, making them a requirement in many colleges.
On the other hand, I understand the view of those who claim otherwise. Job doesn’t always require knowledge only, they usually include experiences and practical abilities too. If workplaces don’t choose people based on their knowledge only, then universities should stop evaluating people based on their academic capabilities alone.
In conclusion, while the education level of a person might not be relevant to some colleges, most still require it in their admission process due to its simplicity and importance. Perhaps, it is more necessary to consider personalities rather than capabilities.
