It is considered that young individuals have begun less engaged in sports less. While this can be attributed to addiction to gadgets and the dominance of intellectual activities over physical ones, the solutions would lie in launching diverse government campaigns, demonstrating the value of sporting, and creating sporting facilities for citizens.
One of the main reasons why people tend to stay at home instead of doing exercises is their dependence on devices and video games. Most young individuals presently are content using smartphones, and they do not need anything else in order to gain pleasure. Moreover, they usually do not face work related to the utilization of physical strength. As a result, such people may see sports or exercises as a waste of time, as it does not directly benefit them. Preferences for mental work over physical labor can be another contributing factor. Currently, youth commonly opt for occupations associated with cognitive skills rather than hard and manual labor due to such positions are generally better paid. Therefore, they are not interested in doing sports because of a sedentary lifestyle, demanding not so much physical power as intellectual. For example, investigations display that people’s sports hobbies depend on their work fields; thus, programmers tend to be weak and thin, whereas builders or handymen are generally strong and powerful.
One effective measure is conducting various public campaigns aimed at enhancing the level of awareness of the benefits of sports among the young population. Holding such types of events would highlight the importance of sporting. Furthermore, it may make more mainstream and trendy to play sports among the young generation since they usually post their progress on social media platforms such as Instagram or Facebook, so they might have a competitive spirit. Consequently, it could motivate them to rival and exercise more, as they may want to show their best to their peers. Another approach is the establishment of sporting facilities. Many people do not have access to gyms or stadiums because they are located too far from their houses, so if they want to train, they need to spend much time on the road. As a result, many young people prefer to stay at home since they need to waste their valuable time in order to get to the nearest gym. However, if they had a gym near their houses, they would train more.
In conclusion, the major reasons behind the issue are the youth’s choice of cognitive pastimes and attachment to apparatus. The problem can be addressed once the government runs campaigns and erects and maintains new sports facilities.
