In the modern world, people have to show up for work no matter what happens to them, and that includes getting sick. While some individuals think this trend exhibits work commitment and benefits the work culture, I believe it is doing more harm to the person and their colleagues.
Having a strong work ethics is important in this competative job market, and when someone is absent it might have a huge impact on a company and the people working around them. This is due to the complex structure of jobs, resulting in everyone depending on one another to complete tasks. As a result, if one part of the structure (the sick person) is removed it will have a ripple effect on the rest. Therefore, employees are compeled to go to work even when they are not feeling well.
With that being said, people who have illnesses can not perform at an optimal level at their jobs, and even worse they might spread their sicknesses to other employees. Consequntly, a company will end up with more workers that are unable to perform in an effort to include one. Therefore, the best course of action, when some one is ill, is to let them rest at home and get medical care. As for the tasks, there are few ways to deal with them. For example, the person can might do them from home or someone else can take over for them.
In conclusion, while I understand the need for a person who is ill to go to work, I believe its disadvantage outweighs the benefit.
