There has been a noticeable trend where people argue that to attract gifted students, higher education institutions in Vietnam should provide more additional aid as well as scholarships for them. In my opinion, I completely agree with this view due to reducing economic burdens, increasing motivation during the learning period, and promoting personal development.
Firstly, providing not only financial support but also scholarship can reduce the financial difficulties and barriers that prevent gifted students from pursuing higher education. This can be exemplified in the case nowadays, many students, especially talented, have to face challenges when they enter higher education in Vietnam such as costs of living, educational expenses, or cover for daily life,… whereas many low-income families cannot afford for their children to enter university. Thanks to these scholarships, gifted students can have more opportunities to access better education without being weighed down by financial pressure.
Secondly, a robust scholarship system enhances drive throughout the learning phase of talented students. There is the fact that receiving a scholarship is also a testament to students’ abilities and efforts, helping them become more confident in their future studies and work. And once they are more motivated to learn, along with their talents, they will gain more achievement in their studies. Moreover, many companies often appreciate candidates who have received scholarships, as this demonstrates their commitment and ability to overcome challenges. As a result, these students can get a better job that is suitable for their talent in the future.
Last but not least, financial aid and scholarships can enhance and promote personal development and soft skills. This can be seen in the case of when talented students receive scholarships as well as financial support, they tend to not worry about finances. Therefore, students can participate in many extracurricular activities, volunteering, and research projects, thereby developing effective leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. This also creates conditions for these students to have better development opportunities in the future.
In conclusion, for these reasons I have mentioned above, I maintain that universities in Vietnam should supply more scholarships and financial aid to support talented students.
