With advances in technology, every house tends to have a television with multiple purposes. Among the reasons, learning has also become one that people watch it for. However, with countless television programmes and movies on the rise, it is necessary to control what children can see on TV in order not to have negative consequences.
Firstly, it would be essential for parents to make proper rules regarding viewing screens at home. In my opinion, what programme a child watches and how long he watches should only be decided by parents. Unless parents control the duration of watch, children will become addicted to TV at a young age, which can subsequently damage their eyes and concentration level. Moreover, parents are supposed to be around children, particularly very young ones, when they are watching TV to ensure that no inappropriate or violent scenes are shown. A disadvantage may be that the children may think he or she is overly protected or overly disciplined. However, I do think it is necessary guidance that parents should set to make TV viewing the best experience for their children.
In addition, TV broadcasting channels should have age restrictions in every show and movie broadcast on TV. Clear and precise censorship and age limitation is required to prevent young children from watching adult shows. A drawback to this is that even if TV shows are forecasted with age restrictions, there is a chance that children will view it without proper supervision.
Lastly, more educational cartoons should be planned and aired on TV channels. Recently, most of the TV shows are unrealistic and some even have scenes which support bullying. Instead, cartoons which would motivate students to learn culture and history, or science will make TV viewing of the children both beneficial and worthy. Although some people might say that it can make children feel bored and can decrease the viewers rate, it seems to be worth if it improves their academic studies.
All in all, parents play a central role in TV viewing of children while broadcast channels and TV programmes also need to have careful consideration to be more productive and advantageous.
