With the industrial revolution, as well as the tremendous advancements electronics it is safe to say that humanity came a long way, but not without a cost. The negative effects on animal and plant life are more evident than ever. Some people lean towards the idea that it is too late to take action, while others believe there is still a chance to restore the ecosystems of animals and plants. In this essay I will explore both ideas, I will give arguments to why it is too late and counter them on why there might still be time to take action. Then i will proceed to give my opinion on the matter.
Countless reports have been made in the past decade that state the same idea, the actions of humanity have proven to be malicious towards plant and animal life and the result is irreversible damage. Starting from the oceans, the planets most valuable resource, holding the most interesting ecosystems of plants and animals has been severely polluted. An example is the garbage islands, these manmade islands are massive bodies of floating garbage brought together by ocean currents. Most the garbage there are non-organic, this effectively means that will not naturally dissolve for a long time. The effect on marine life is tremendous, because animals mistake them for food they cause deaths and contribute to the extinction of a large number of species. This is a strong argument on why it is just too late. If they cannot naturally dissolve and any attempt by mankind to clean-up is simply futile due to the their enormous size and the logistics involved.2 On the other hand, more and more people have started to educate themselves on the matter. With a plethora of environmental groups being formed and recycling campaigns enforced, it it safe to say that the world is starting to take action. This worldwide action is starting to produce results, for example there have been a large number of organisations forming cleaning campaigns and mass tree planting in order to restore the forests to their former glory. All of these actions are proof that it is not too late. We cannot simply say that its too late and give up, as this will just make the matters worse.
Concluding, the negative effects on plants and animals due to humanitys actions are a fact, while there are a lot of people who say that it is just too late to take action, there are still others that feel that there is still hope. My opinion on the matter, while for me it is evident that serious and non-reversible damage has been made, it would be wrong and unjust of human kind to not make an effort to save what is left, by doing nothing we gain nothing but in the end might lose everything.
