Today, people tend to put more value on certain academic fields susch as science and technology than subjects relating to humanities: philosophy and history. This might be because students can use its knowledge directly in their future career. I mostly disagree with this tendency since the latter subjects can make social bond social bond stronger.
Admittedly, the former majors allow student to learn things required in a practical work environment. For examnple, if people who take computer science degree became engineers, it must be easy for them to apply their skills to jobs. In addtion, these day, there is a large demand for those occupations related to computer or artificial intelligence.
Nevertheless, teaching humanities subjects has more positive impacts than that of teaching STEM subjects ( Science, technology, engineering, and mathmathics). First, by learning those studies, young generations may be more interested in what is happening around the world. What people in the past have achieved and failed to do is invaluable and those can be used in modern society. Moreover, it may help students to have own opinions about social situations, which lead more persons to take actions to realize an improved community. Second, reading books concerning humanities field would widen individuals’ perspectives. Many people in various age bracket sometimes rely on a philosophical book to find solution for their worries or struggles in their lives such as relationships, self-esteem, and social status.
In conlusion, though science and thecnology enable people to work efficiantly, the wisdom of philosophy and history is more likely to support people’s life. Therefore, in my opinion, it is more beneficial for students to study humanities classes than lerning STEM subjects.
