It has long been a subject of discussion about whether it is important to preserve the beautiful buildings of the past, even if it will be expensive to do so, or not. In my opinion, the former notion has several elements that deserve attention, and I will explain by using pertinent arguments.
There are a myriad of arguments in favor of my context. The most conspicuous one lies in the fact that preserving historical buildings helps maintain cultural heritage. For example, according to a recent survey done by Stanford University, 45% of people believe that historical landmarks are essential for cultural identity, whereas 35% think their preservation can stimulate tourism. Hence, it is apparent why many citizens are in favor of preserving the beautiful buildings of the past.
Another argument in support of my view is that governments worldwide have become more active in dealing with this situation. To illustrate, as per a recent academic research carried out by the Australian government, cities that invested in restoring old buildings experienced a 20% increase in tourism-related revenue. They improved their existing infrastructure tremendously and that paved the way for a better economic future. Therefore, not only will preserving these buildings protect cultural heritage, but it will also lead to better living standards and economic growth.
From what has been discussed above, it is clear that the benefits of preserving beautiful buildings of the past significantly outweigh the drawbacks. Lastly, in my opinion, it would be wise to say that preserving such buildings is crucial, even if it comes at a high cost.
