Delinquency has always been one of the most widespread problems within any society arising due to a number of various factors and reasons. Most frequently, almost all criminals are punished for their illegal actions and some countries are focused on this process of punishment as one of the main priorities of society’s security. This essay will argue that governments should focus more on developing living conditions rather than on punishment methods.
First of all, when we consider the threat of punishment as a way of tackling crime rate, this approach does not always lead to misdoings prevention due to the fact that a number of experienced criminals are not afraid of being sentenced. Moreover, people, who spent time in prison and were released then, rarely undergo re-education process during the time spent in custody and remain delinquents. When they get back to their familiar neighborhood, there is a huge possibility that they will continue to break the law. In this case, government should focus on improving the living conditions of the community in the areas where there is an increased crime rate by introducing various social programs supporting peoplein need or by renovating the area, letting society understand that their lives and what is around them can develop. In my opinion, this is a strong argument in favor of this policy, as providing help and support for the inhabitants of the disadvantaged areas can show them a better reality and stop them in some way from violating the law.
On the other hand, it is possible to be skeptical of this argument. Improving living conditions may give the perception of increased safety, however, it may not necessarily address the root causes of delinquency and may not actually reduce misdemeanor rates in the long term. Moreover, improved environment does not guarantee safety for the citizens. In my view, only a comprehensive approach, involving both developing the quality of life and social education for peopleprone to crime commitments, can be effective for prevention of breaking the law in the long term.
In conclusion, I believe that government must form an adequate and correct approach to the problem of the misdemeanor spread and should not focus only on the methods to improve living conditions although a number of people consider it to be the best way to tackle the problem. A balanced consideration and both renovating the neighborhood and educating society about the rules and standards of social behavior can help solve this significant issue.
