Fast food is now widely available worldwide, and its prices have been increasingly cheap. Although many can argue that fast food’s popularity is detrimental because of its health impact, its benefits, such as affordability and ease of preparation, outweigh drawbacks.
Food items such as burgers, hot dogs, and other sandwiches do not present significant nutritional value, meaning they are not rich in necessary nutrients such as vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals. Thus, continuous consumption of fast food, with regular intake of 4-5 times a week, leads to a harmful diet that can have further consequences. One of those is obesity, a health complication that has become an epidemic in many countries of the contemporary world.
Despite health risks, it can be argued that fast food’s overall influence has been quite positive. Its affordability is the main reason why so many people benefit from fast food’s availability. This group of people often includes students with a tight budget or those with other financial issues. It can also be noted that certain healthy products can often be expensive, particularly if they are of an exotic nature. Therefore, fast food’s availability is great news for anyone who cannot afford costly food options.
Money aside, fast food is called “fast” for a reason. It takes as little as 4-5 minutes to prepare certain meals, making them highly desirable for people with hectic lifestyles. In other words, many individuals cannot wait for food to be prepared for longer than, say, 20 minutes. Another time-related factor is fast food chains’ impressive accessibility in comparison to other restaurants. In Tashkent, for example, many fast-food eateries, including KFC, work 24 hours a day, which is important for those with night shifts. Regular restaurants are mostly closed at nighttime.
In conclusion, it is true that fast food is not a healthy option, but its other benefits related to money and time outweigh any disadvantages.
