Instead of locally-produced food, an increasing number of people, in many parts of the world, prefer to buy imported food. It is because, in most people’s view, local food is not in high quality as its foreign counterpart. To encourage more consumers to buy local food, I believe, it is important for local food producers to gain trust of their clients.
The reasons why more and more individuals opt for imported food today may vary, but the most common one is that such food is perceived to have better quality. In other words, consumers believe and it is true that food- prior to being exported abroad- passes through thorough manual and automatic inspection and then again is examined by quality control departments of a country importing the food. Once found edible, it is then officially permitted to be sold. And also the country from which the food is imported is another factor for people to consider it first-rate and why sales of such food are high. Among locals in Uzbekistan, for intance, food imported from Germany, Russia and Turkey is, typically, sold very quickly thanks to the credibility these countries have established among locals.
Even though it is hard for local food to compete with foreign food imported because the latter has already become recognized worldwide and gained its popularity in the global market, it is still possible for local produce to be favored among individuals as long as relations between consumers and producers are built on trust. To do that, not only the quality of food should be high in terms of an overall nutritional value, but also the cost the market offers ought to be affordable for buyers. When these two are inversely proportional, with the former being always higher, local food might likely take the lead in the market.
In conclusion, many hold the view that imported food is of high quality and choose to buy it rather than food produced locally, because they believe such food is thoroughly inspected before being put on sale and due to some countries that have earned their trust with regard to the quality of their produce. When local food is competitive in quality and cost-two factors to earn customer trust- more people may be encouraged to buy it.
