Money has become a hot topic in social conversations for many people in various countries, often revolving around their income and expenditure. The main reason behind this occurrence is that people want to show off their high salaries and spending. I think this is a negative development that can lower people’s self-esteem.
One reason why money has been increasingly talked about is that people want to display their wealth. Most people who work in handsomely paid jobs will want to brag about their earnings to boost their social status. This is because to be employed in high-paying jobs and able to live luxuriously is considered to be wealthy and happy in life, and it is the fantasies of many people. For example, people who want to be acknowledged as wealthy will spend money on expensive cars and costumes to show off their capability of making money. Therefore, more people are discussing their earnings and expenditures in daily interactions.
However, this can lead to a serious downside as it lowers some individuals’ confidence. In other words, a person who has a low income will be highly disappointed in themselves for not making as much money as others. As a result, they will be discouraged in their work, regretting their current position and feel ashamed when sharing about their earnings or spending. For instance, factory workers are often paid less than other occupations, thus many people doing this job feel ashamed when compared with other people’s salaries and spending.
In conclusion, while earnings and expenditures are being discussed more often in daily interactions because of the desire to boast, it can have adverse effects on individuals’ self-esteem.
