With the proliferation of fashion style and shifts in personal preference, it has become increasingly common for individuals, irrespective of their geographical locations, to put on western-style attire like suits and jeans instead of conventional ones, particularly in larger cities. While this circumstance is caused by the confluence of practical and emotional factors, I believe that it largely represents a negative development due to its detrimental impact on cultures and societies as a whole.
The rise in western – style garments is influenced by a blend of pragmatic and sentimental considerations. With the availability and accessibility of western-style clothing in stores worldwide, individuals, especially younger generations, are opting for western-style clothing due to its suitability for various occasions such as work, social events and casual outings. Considering accessibility and availability, it is not surprising for individuals to accept the familiarity of western fashion like jeans and suits compared to their traditional ones in modern society, leading to not only influence of western fashion trends in the media, but entertainment industry as well. Emotionally, as feeling confident and empowered in western-style clothing plays a crucial part in choosing attire, they show an inclination towards expressing personal style and individuality through western fashion. In response to this inclination, it is logical for individuals to boost self-esteem, self-image and find comfort, familiarity when wearing Western attires.
In my opinion, a propensity for putting on Western-style garments like jeans and shirts does more harm than good. Once individuals put on western-style garments, they feel to conform to Western beauty standards through fashion choices, thereby fostering individuals to purchase western attires which are higher cost compared to traditional and cultural ones. In addition, if individuals are addicted to western-style closing, they struggle to be the perpetuation of Western centric ideas and perspective through fashions, leading to reinforce stereotype and misconceptions about non Western cultures through Western fashion trends. As a consequence of this circumstance, these fashion trends impact negatively on local economies and traditional clothing industries.
