Over the several years, the isolation lifestyle has been a pervasive phenomenon in many nations; however, it is widely acknowledged by most people that this phenomenon is now becoming a serious problem in society. This issue happens due to a number of reasons, and it can have many adverse impacts to the community.

To begin with, there are some explanations for this lifestyle. First of all, those people who choose to live by themselves may be due to the desiration for solitude. Conspicuously, when teenagers are mature enough to have their own independent life, they would have more tendency to follow an isolated life. This is partly because youngsters want to acquire more basic life skills, and also due to the desire to show their ability to live alone sans the assistance from their guardians. Furthermore, the growing number of people withdrawing from society might stem from the increasing number of people strickening with mental health problems such as anxiety, depression or social phobia. A survey from Japan has revealed that 1.5 million people follow this living style, and this trend is so-called hikikomori.

The impacts of this trend on society are utterly serious that it should be taken into consideration as soon as possible. Widespread social isolation can become a public health issue that would burden the overwhelming healthcare system. Most people who follow this trend would have a sedentary lifestyle which can lead to a plethora of not only mental problems but also physical health issues such as obesity, cardiovascular disease or a diminished immune system; hence, hospitals and medical centers could face an overloaded system. Additionally, those people with an isolated lifestyle could have financial problems as isolation can limit their job opportunity and career advancement, especially with jobs requiring social interaction and networking.

In conclusion, there are several factors that make people choose an isolated life such as mental health problems or the desire to be independent and the negative influences are so detrimental to be neglected. However, there are feasible solutions for this problems if the government and citizens join hands.
