Band 6+: In many countries, there is a growing gap between the technical skills of younger people and those over the age of fifty. What problems does this cause, and what solutions could minimise the problems ?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is a generation gap between ability in the STEM field of elderly and younger people in many countries. This condition could lead to negative impacts for daily and professional life, but there are some things that can be done to help.

To begin with, there are two problems caused by this condition. Firstly, it can be bad for baby boomers and early millennials if they are unable to adapt to new technology. For example, when several stores only accept cashless payment by QRqr code, older people who usually used to use cash and do not have supported devicesdevice will have problems buying something. Secondly, applied technology in the workplace is needed by a company to develop, so every employee has to use it. When older workers can not use the technology, not only do theythem get the drawbacks but also the younger ones, millennials and z generation. Usually, the younger employees get more workload when it comes to IT stuffstuffs.

However, those problems are not impossible to minimize, there are things that can be done. The simplest solution is by giving detailed instructions about the technology for the elderly, such as for example how to use apps or electric appliances. In addition, in the workplace, companies should provide technical training for workers with a combination of employees with age differences. The younger ones can teach about the new technical skills such as programming and data analytics, and the older onesone can share about work and life experiences that might be useful in the future.

In conclusion, some problems can be experienced because of the technical gap between young and older people. However, But I think we should overcome this by sharing and learning together with elderly.
