Nowadays, many people celebrate global holidays like halloween and Valentines day instead of traditional ones. Some think it is good for cultural understanding, while others believe it harms national identity. And this essay will discuss both views and my opinions.
Firstly, celebrating global holidays has many advantages because people can learn about other cultures and traditions in a simple and interesting way. For example, when people celebrate Halloween or Valentine’s Day, they learn new customs, symbols, and activities. This helps them understand how people in other countries live and think. As a result, people become more open-minded and friendly to others. In addition, global holidays are fun and enjoyable, especially for young people, because they include activities like giving gifts, wearing costumes, and spending time with friends. Also, people from different countries celebrate the same holidays, so they feel more connected and united.
Secondly, some people believe that global holidays can harm national identity because traditional holidays are an important part of a country’s culture and history. If people stop celebrating them, they may forget their own traditions and values. For example, young people might know more about foreign holidays than their national ones. Moreover, focusing too much on global celebrations can make cultures less unique, because people may start copying other traditions instead of keeping their own. This can lead to a loss of cultural identity, so it is important to respect and celebrate local holidays as well.
In conclusion, global holidays have both positive and negative effects. They help people learn about other cultures and enjoy life, but they can also weaken national traditions. In my opinion, people should celebrate both global and traditional holidays to keep a good balance.
