Nowadays, many are choosing to live alone instead of living with family or roommates. There are number of reasons why this is the case, including rising incomes and desire for privacy and independence.
This can be attributed to rising incomes among young people and a growing desire for personal privacy. In many countries, people are choosing high-salary jobs and because of that they are choosing to live alone, whereas the older generations had to live with their parents until marriage. Another reason is that many people want privacy and become independent. This is because living with roommates can be very annoying and difficult. Also, working from home, people want quiet places with no distractions, and they come up with living alone.
There are various reasons by which this problem can be mitigated. First and foremost, governments should organize local events, so that people living alone can still meet others. Take Uzbekistan – my country, where there are many weekend events so that people can meet others without needing to live with parents or roommates. These events give people living alone a regular chance to build friendships, which reduces the loneliness that can come from living by themselves. Just organizing events might not be enough. A further step would require adding shared spaces to buildings such as gardens or lounges, so that neighbors talk to each other naturally.
In conclusion, the driving factors behind this phenomenon are rising salaries and the desire for more privacy and independence. The problem can be tackled by organizing more public events and adding public spaces to buildings.
