Band 6+: In many countries today, major cities have become too big and overcrowded. Why is this? What measures could be taken to reduce this problem?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is widely observed that numerous large cities have increasingly become larger-scale and overcrowed. Nowadays, many individuals are discussing about chief reasons behind this trend and practical approaches. In this essay, I will reveal my subjective assessments about these concerning questions related to this alarming development. On the one hand, there are several seemly inevitable factors explaining why they are facing the over-crowed situations.

To begin with, one of the most crucial causes is massive migration from rural to urban areas in order to find better employment opportunities, frequently focusing on metropolitan regions. This is due to most rural districts mainly depend on agriculture where lack of stable jobs or competitive wages. As a result, young residents are promoted to travel to the major cities, along with hopes about financial stability and promotions in career paths. Another factor is concentration of industries and essential services in large cities. One typical example is industrial activities, such as magnets, attract the rural inhabitants. Additionally, multiple facilities like hospitals, universities, and quality banks potentially bring about better access with education and healthcare services, which are mostly located at urban centers, encouraging more residents.

On the other hand, these popular tendencies can be addressed effectively through several feasible solutions. First of all, by enhancing rural infrastructure and creating more job opportunities at less developed regions, we could facilitate to retain individuals. In other words, we enable such rural zones to become more attractive to young employees. For instance, the government authorities may invest in local factories, sustainable agriculture, and digital connectivity to allow indigenous people to gain consistent income without leaving their families. Additionally, to deal with this problem, we may coax companies relocating or expanding their operations to smaller towns that are lack of various resources. Through offering tax incentives and improving transportation links, we can promote enterprises to establish branches outside the large urban centers. These initiatives result in the balance in population distribution and more equal regional growth in terms of economy.

In conclusion, despite the significant influences stemming from the massive migration and the industrial diversity in large cities, we possibly deal with the over-crowed circumstances by boosting the more modern living space and constructing more working amenities in the rural zones.
