It is increasingly common that many women regard marriage as unnecessary; many think that this happens because they can make the living on their own and no longer need to rely on the financial security that accompanies marriage. From my perspective, I partly agree with this view for some reasons.
It is understandable why some people hold the view that when women are able to earn money by themselves, they are less likely to consider getting married. Firstly, dependency on the income of the husband has made many women’s lives miserable, as their ideas and speech are often underestimated and not highly regarded. In addition, gender equality has improved considerably in recent years, and more women have access to quality education and job opportunities, which means that they can support themselves and have the freedom to choose their lifestyle.
However, I believe that the ability to make the living by themselves is not the only reason for this movement. Nowadays, the disparity between men and women still persists, which means that most of men are likely to to be paid higher than women, making living alone less appealing in terms of personal finance. In addition, as the living costs are extremely high nowadays due to recession and inflation, many choose to not get married until they are financially stable. Furthermore, many want to pursue a life with a greater degree of freedom, not being constrained by family and be able to do things that they truly enjoy.
