Nowadays, many people prefer to throw away broken items rather than repair them, while others think that these things should be fixed and used again. This essay will discuss reasons for this trend and suggest some solutions.

Firstly, one of the main reason for this trend is that modern products are cheap to buy and it is often faster to purchase new item than repairing old one. For example, electronic devices such as phones or headphones are produced in mass quantities, so their prices decreased significantly over last years. Because of this, people do not see value in spending time and money on repair services, especially if the cost of fixing is similar or even higher than buying new product. Consequently, this creates habit of replacing rather than repairing.

Secondly, another reason is that many items nowadays are not designed to be repaired easily. Companies often make products with parts that cannot be replaced or opened without special tools, which discourage people from trying to fix them by themselves. In addition, repair shops are becoming less common in some areas, so people find it inconvenient to search for a specialist who could repair their broken things. As a result, throwing away becomes more practical option for many.

However, there are several solutions that could help to change this trend. Governments could introduce laws that require companies to make products easier to repair, for example by providing spare parts or repair manuals to customers. This would encourage manufacturers to design more sustainable products. Furthermore, local communities could organize repair workshops or cafes, where people can bring their broken items and get help from volunteers, which also raises awareness about environmental impact of throwing things away.

In conclusion, the trend of throwing away broken items happens mainly because of cheap prices of new products and difficulty of repairing modern goods. Governments and communities should take actions such as creating repair-friendly laws and organizing repair events in order to reduce this problem and protect the environment.
