With the advancement of information technology today, the 24/7 broadcasting of sports events on television has become increasingly crucial. However, this trend has sparked a debate regarding whether it might diminish children’s enthusiasm for participating in sports. This essay will discuss the impact of sports broadcasting on children, followed by my personal opinion that it is not sports coverage but television content in general that affects children’s interest in physical activities.
In general, sports programs play a significant role in inspiring teenagers to engage in athletics. When sporting events are televised, teenagers can witness their role models demonstrating exceptional skills in competitions, which naturally motivates them to try out these techniques in real games. Moreover, exposure to various sports varieties through the media allows children to explore different outdoor activities. For instance, freestyle football originated in Western countries and has recently gained popularity in Vietnam. Consequently, a large number of people, especially teenagers, have embraced this sport.
However, the primary reason why many believe that sports coverage may be detrimental is the failure to distinguish between the impact of sports programs and television content as a whole. Nowadays, TV networks not only broadcast sports events but also offer a variety of programs, such as music and movies, to cater to viewers’ preferences. As a result, many children opt to watch television instead of participating in sports. The decrease in the number of young athletes is not surprising, as not all teenagers have a passion for sports.
In conclusion, I believe that, in general, it is television content itself that dampens children’s interest in outdoor activities, while sports play a crucial role in instilling a sportsmanship spirit in the younger generation.
