In today’s world television and other media are widely spread, which makes it possible to access sport content around the clock. Many people believe this leads the younger generations to practice less of such sports. Even though this opinion is funded, I consider it to be incorrect.
On one hand, it is true that watching sports is one of the main entertainments of kids and teens. Moreover, it is generally believed that the newer generations are less active than their older counterpart. This mistakably leads to the tough that this lack of activity comes from the fact that watching sports invites them to practice them less.
While the new technologies explain the decreased activity, it is easy to understand that the wide adoption of sports coverage only increases the adoption of that sport. By watching professional players kids get inspired and learn from them, they dream about having their lives and skills which makes them want to play the sport even more. Furthermore watching different sports makes us want to be active, try new sports, new tactics, new options and approaches that lead us to the fields to actually play the sport.
In fact, most of the young adults who watch sports on TV actually practice such sports regularly. Moreover, the large audiences of sport channels which are not active are the older generation and middle age adults. The latter may feel tired after a day of work and choose to watch sports to relax instead of practising them.
In conclusion, I do believe watching sport may contribute to less physical activity but this does not apply to younger generation but rather to the adult ones. At the end of the day, it is within us to have the drive to play a sport, and the love for that sport may get us to watch it on TV, but the young one’s who have the time and energy for it, will play it even more and better.
