It is believed that creativity and imagination are becoming more and more important at work environments. I believe it is a negative development as I will examine the reasons in this essay.
First of all, most of technical jobs are no longer bringing profits and they are not considered to be advantageous in a workplace anymore. Managers are looking for those who are mentally agile to generate innovative ideas, which can lead to financial gains, through proper financial allocation as well as cutting down unnecessary expenses. To illustrate this better, a commercial teaser used to be extremely costly due to a number of factors, such as hiring actors, director, and a recorder. But thanks to technology, a creative mind can generate the whole video with assistance of artificial intelligence, without overspending on aforementioned factors. Therefore, the importance of creativity is undeniable in companies’ success.
It is believed to be a negative shift as it has reduced job availability for plenty of job seekers. Many have been training for years and even have spent a fortune to become technical experts in order to be able to earn decently later in life. This new trend, however, has robbed them from their potential jobs. They need to enroll in new study subjects or train again to be eligible to be employed at the same offices their fathers worked simply by having bachelor degree. For example, 50 years ago, people who could type with a typing machine were considered qualified to be hired, but in todays digital age typing is not often listed as a part job description. Hence, these new eligibility criteria is has made life hard for many.
In conclusion, although the role of financial efficacy of creative and imaginative minds cannot be overlooked, it has its downsides too. This growing trend has increased the rate of unemployment due to new qualifying criteria which many do not meet.
