In today’s world, it has became unnecessary to use animal either as food or as clothing and medicines. From my standpoint, however, I only approve with the former idea of this suggestion because reducing the killings of animal for food and garments would be more sustainable and beneficial while stopping the use of animal ingredients in medicines would be irrational
One primary reason for the abandonment of a meat-based diet is that a vegetarian diet can bring much more benefits. Following such diet can save people time and effort to prepare ingredients and cook. Unlike meats and fishes, cooking and preparing vegetables are effortless. Anyone could boil, simmer, fry a brocoli in a few minutes to make breakfast, lunch or dinner. Apart from that, a plant-based diet can be more nutrious. Fruits and greeneries can provide essential vitamins, electrolides and proteins, which are vital to human growth and development. A good proven example of following such diet should be monks. They have followed a strict vegan diet for thousands of years and proven that a human can live happily and healthy with a vegetarian diet
Another point supporting for the discontinution of using animal skins in clothing is that there is no more need. In the past, animal furs were used to make clothes, this is no longer true today since most clothing materials are replaced by other plant-based and synthetic materials. Alternative materials such as nylon and cotton are more comfortable, durable and cost-effective than animal-based fibers, therefore driving costs down and make clothing more affordable for the masses.
However, there is still a need for animal testing and extraction of ingredients from animals. While we have the computational power, algorithm and other methods to observe and predict the effect of a drug on humans, testing drugs on animals is still the most accurate and precise way to foresee adverse effects. With human life on the table, a compromise must be made. The same also applies for the use of animal body parts for pharaceutical purposes . One example is the harvesting of stingray’s blood. Their blood is beneficial for the detection and isolation of dangerous pathogens present in vaccines and are currently unable to be replicated by other synthetic means. Therefore, it would be unreasonable to outlaw or to stop drugs testing trails on animals and extraction of animal bodily parts
In conclusion, I only agree with the view that animals should not be killed for food and clothing due to the benefits of alternatives options and disagree with the opposition against animal testing and animal extraction of ingredients due to our inability to find replacements and subsitutes.
