It is argued that modern society has been facing rapid transformation in the family structure where eventually responsibilities of its members also is becoming different. These modifications are primarily can lead to the growing focus of young people on their careers and loosing family bounds and therefore the decreasing of birth rate. Despite the positive aspect in terms of material gains, I believe that this drastic shift can exact a significant emotional toll in the long run.
In hectic life young people tend to neglect the idea of having children at all or due to leading busy life they aren’t concerned with family values. Young people are no longer weighted down by excessive family duties, such as caring of children or their education, and people keep focusing on their personal and professional lives. For example, In Germany the recent government survey found out that considerable number of women haven’t given birth at all or 30% of family lost family values.
Even though people will be economically stable, which is a good side of that phenomenon, those who started a family but don’t have work and life balance will totally have snowed under with work and the diminishing family time not only deprives children of proper growth but also breeds traumas. For example, there are a lot of children who are struggling with mental illness in the world.
In conclusion, the revolution in the family structure that we are currently witnessing is a natural consequence of the growing focus on individualism. While it may have some advantage, its drawbacks are decreasing birth rate and being indifferent to family bounds.
