In some nations, it is being observed that the trend of consuming vegetables and fruits is becoming more common. Although it saves scores of animals from being slaughtered, I believe that it has more drawbacks because some of the essential amino acids are lacking in vegetarian diet.
On one hand, public’s shifting trend towards vegetarian diet is a relief for animal species consumed as food. No killing of sheep, cow, chicken etc. will perhaps reignite a sense of kindness in people, which will further lead to less consumption of animals. For example, Muslims slaughter hundreds of thousands of animals on EID which if prevented can save their lives.
Despite this, I believe that it will lead to enormous proliferation and overcrowding of animals.
On the other hand, people who are dependant only on vegetables and fruits, and do not take meat in their diet, suffer from a deficiency of essential amino acids in their bodies. No other source can replenish these amino acids, because they are only present in meat. This deficiency if severe can cause various diseases leading to miserable conditions. For instance, Indian people who are mostly vegetarian more frequently have these amino acid deficiency diseases. Therefore, I am of the opinion that the aim of having perfectly healthy and sound population is more precious than preventing the killing of animals.
To conclude, a shifting trend towards vegetarian diet is good to save animal’s lives. However, there are more disadvantages of it because it will lead to a sick population.
