Some countries permit young adults to take a gap year in the time between high school and beginning university. Although there might be some negative consequences in doing so, I believe that the majority of students find themselves in a thriving role by taking a year off from studies.
In my opinion, gap years are taken in order to build up on self-reliance and self-confidence. Students take up part time jobs or internship opportunities that could help them ace in university. There is great room for character development in a span of one year and in doing so one can gain immense confidence in their future path. A gap year can also be a great way to go on solo-trips and experience small parts of the world on a budget. This particular example has seen a rise in trends in recent years.
On the other hand, there are a few downsides in taking a year off if individuals don’t have the right frame of mind and keep no plan for the year. A year full of opportunities goes in vain when they won’t act on it and would rather spend time partying with friends or in their room all day. It has been noticed, some employers tend to not hire people having a gap year if they can’t explain it with relevant information.
I believe that the advantages definitely surpass the disadvantages, as a missed opportunity is tougher than no opportunity. If students bare in mind and have a solid plan for the coming year and are able to execute it diligently, it is without a doubt a boon to their life experiences. The gap year would help them shape their career.
