Band 5+: In some countries, it is illegal for companies to reject job applicants their age. Is this a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In several jurisdictions it is against the law to exclude the resumes based on the age of the candidate. In recent times, skill has been emphasised more than age. However, in my opinion, it is a positive development, and my preference will be discussed further.

To begin with, skills and capabilities are the most crucial qualities to perform a better ability to work. As technologies progressing, individuals are able to learn new skills and also different course with the help of the internet. As a result, they are also capable of doing better jobs at younger age. For instance, the survey has shown that many students are working at the same time while studying to have strong resumes after graduation. Many companies are finding final year students for internships. That is exactly how my friend Polina got a well-paid job. She have gone through several internships during her university years and thankfully to that now she is working in the best bank of Russia on the high position.

In addition, while hiring employers are looking for experience. Since students started freelancing when it comes to work they already good-skilled and have portfolio which makes them more desirable on the marketplace of jobs. Also, that helps young people be able to multitask. For instance, an interview with a young employee revealed that, after getting extensive experience in their industry while attending college, he is now an expert in his profession and has a senior position in an international organisation.

To conclude, although at some places people hesitate before hiring an early age employee, they should encourage them as they have technical experience and as youngsters they have new ideas and perspectives that contribute to the growth of the company.
