In the contemporary world, the state of being overweight in children is getting universally popular and, therefore, alarming. A segment of the population ascribes the authorities to the misfit conditions of their young residents and requires immediate solutions to this arising problem. However, I firmly believe the responsibility should be collectively shared by parents and the government for some valid justifications, which reinforces my disagreement with the previous belief.
Admittedly, poor governance may probably lay the foundation for a growing body of unhealthy lifestyle. Given that aesthetically appealing food commercials are more ubiquitous, they may influence kids’ dietary habit by suggesting them calorie-rich meals are more delicious compared to plain meals. Additionally, there are few restrictions on food production, junk food, for example, is popular among the youth, notwithstanding their understood hazardous effects on humans’ bodies. Coupled with a sedentary lifestyle, which can be attributed to lack of physical exercises in educational curriculum, kids can be misled and consequently result in obesity.
On the other hand, lack of guidance from parents leads to children’s ignorance in nutrition and health. A significantly number of families anticipates that overweight children are healthy ones, which encourages them to foster their offsprings in an nutritionally redundant way. Vietnam can exemplify this situation. Many parents are led into the misconception of healthy model, as their ancestors praised fat kids as a symbol of wealth and health. Secondly, numerous children are left uncared by their own biological parents whose interests are not in their kids’ life. It is transparent that many kids become independent at a very young age, trying to feed themselves without much knowing how unhealthy the food is.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly oppose the idea that the officials must solitarily shoulder the responsibility of resolving obesity and contend that families are the perfect individuals to educate the youth about dietary knowledge. Nevertheless, due to lack of restriction in F&B industry’s commercials and market trend, the government has partially promoted the comtemptible eating habit of kids, which can be significantly alleviated by placing new implementations and restrictions on food production.
