In recent years, along with the development of e-commerce websites, online shopping has become popular and gradually replaced traditional in-store shopping in many specific areas. In my opinion, this change offers both several conveniences and negative aspects on local business and employment.
On the one hand, I believe that online methods of shopping have many significant advantages for buyers. Firstly, shopping through e-commerce platforms can help buyers shop conveniently and save precious time. Online shopping enables people to shop anytime, which is helpful for those who have busy schedules. Besides, door-to-door or on-demand delivery services are convenient for people to save time on commuting and in-store browsing. Secondly, virtual shopping can also offer more affordable prices for various products, due to expense savings like renting premises and hiring staff. Specifically, e-commerce platforms frequently provide attractive exclusive discounts and promotions to customers. For instance, some famous E-commerce platforms in Vietnam such as Shopee and Lazada offer significant discounts at the event “11.11 Shopping Festival”, attracting millions of buyers.
On the other hand, the development of online shopping can bring some disadvantages for customers. Shopping in stores can enable customers to find perfectly fitting clothes, however, online purchases can make it difficult to assess product quality. In other words, customers cannot physically see or try products before purchasing, which can lead to dissatisfaction or the need for returns. Moreover, the issues of data loss and cybercrime through online shopping are also controversial. Shopping online requires sharing personal information, such as credit card details, which may be at risk of theft on insecure platforms. In reality, there have been many cases of cybercrimes exploiting customer information from orders for extortion and unauthorized access to bank accounts, leading to financial losses and missed opportunities.
In conclusion, online shopping has important benefits, including time–saving opportunities to purchase and offering more reasonable prices. However, shopping in stores can also enable people to be satisfied with their choices and prevent the loss of private information. Therefore, striking a balance between these shopping choices is critical in the modern world.
