Band 6+: In some countries, some people are renting accommodation while others are buying their own houses. Do renting accommodation have more advantages or disadvantages than buying a place?

In certain countries many people buy their own house or alternatively rent a house. Here, “rent” refers to an agreement between two parties to lease a property. In this essay, I will demonstrate that renting a house is more beneficial despite its drawbacks. To explore this idea, I will discuss the advantages such as, balancing health, social, and educational issues of lives, and offering flexible upfront payment compared to a large down payment, as well as a disadvantage such as an increasing monthly rent, which can strain the budget.

One major benefit of renting a house is, Its balance in term of social, health, or educational issues. People will face various problems in different stages of their lives. For example, after schooling, we may have the opportunity to pursue higher study in a foreign country. If we live in a rented house there are no issues with changing the place as the rent agreement can be canceled within a short period. However, if we live in an owned house, we either have to find someone to clean and maintain the house for several years or will have to be sold. This situation causes an extra stress to homeowner. This highlights the advantage of living in a rented house compared to a owning house.

Another significant advantage of living in a rented house is its flexible upfront payments. In contemporary societies, many property companies offer flexible and attractive upfront payments with reasonable rates, including a deposit of three- or five-months’ rent. For instance, research conducted by the IHRUP institute in Germany in 2000 found that 98% of individuals cited the flexible as their main reason for renting a house. This fact further confirms again renting a house is more beneficial than owning one.

However, relying on renting a house presents certain drawbacks, such as the possibility of monthly rent increasing. According to the rental agreement the house owner can often increase the monthly rent under certain conditions. For instance, due to the country’s economy situation or maintenance cost or other service charge, rent can rise, which influences the renter’s budget. This evidence proves that renting a house may be harmful.

In conclusion, I have discussed the benefits of rent a house, such as providing an attractive payment method, and balancing social, educational, and heath issue in life, while acknowledging disadvantages, such as the rising of monthly rent. Although there are some issues, by controlling them we can enjoy the benefits of rent a house.
