In some parts of the world, students prefer to stay with their family during their university studies, while others want to become more independent and responsible by moving to another place to gain knowledge. From my point of view, the demerits of studying abroad outweigh the benefits.
Beginning with the positive aspects, living alone can contribute to a person’s personal growth. The teenager begins to build his own adult life. It is not just about being irrespective, it is more about liability and readiness for prospective life. Such experience teaches individuals to rely only on themselves, to manage money wisely, and to be ready for all chores. Also, a person becomes more liberated, meets another culture and mentality, thus expanding his horizon and social circle.
But such experience also has major disadvantages, one of the most pivotal is the financial status of the family. I consider it is better to move out from parents only if they have the ability to help their child materially and even provide for him. If the family budget cannot afford this, student will have to get hired and try to combine it with his studies. It leads to at least two big problems: almost impossible to find a good job with a flexible schedule and a high salary for a teenager and very difficult to balance study and work, especially for a freshman. In addition, being away from hometown, family, and friends affects a person’s moral and psychological state. There were even situations when people became depressed and went back home.
In conclusion, staying with the family has more benefits than study in another city. Of course, it is really paramount to separate from your parents in time, but it is better to do after graduating with a bachelor’s degree.
