In contemporary world, taking a “Gap year” between transition to university studies and graduating high school for traveling or labor has become the encouragement for adolescents in some countries. While there are some drawbacks of taking sabbatical, they are outweighed by the benefits.
One disadvantage of interim period is that future students might find it difficult to return to “study mindset” after a year of leisure work, potentially struggling with academic vigor due to academic atrophy. Delayed entry into workforce can be another downside. This especially poses a challenge for pupils, because taking a year off means graduating and starting a professional career later than peers. If student takes a gap year without any plan for self-study, they may fall behind their contemporaries roughly.
However, the benefits of taking additional year between two integral aspects of life ripping the disadvantages. One of the major benefits is the broaden student’s horizons. For instance, postgraduates can travel overseas and witness new experience throughout visiting various countries which will enhance their proficiency in some spheres. Nevertheless, freshmen will be able to maintain career clarity. Many students enter university without knowing what they want to do. A gap year allows time for internships or volunteering to find their true passion.
In conclusion, taking an additional year for existential pupils may ensure some inconvenience for future studies due to poor progress and lack of necessary knowledge. Notwithstanding, the upsides are more significant, including amplifying purview and finding “real” themselves.
