In modern society, women continue suffer disadvantages in their employment, especially in their education and employment. While there is a strong case for this view, I believed that solutions must be applied to handle some of the serious issues which have arisen.
There are two primary reasons why it is the case. The first one is that some managers have patriarchal ideologies and sexual stereotypes which are passed down from their previous generations. They still discriminate on the basis of the sexual of their employees and have a thinking that men deserve a higher salary than women and only men can reach higher positions in the workspace. This leads to women may perceive a glass ceiling, which prevent them from advancing and promotion in their work. The second reason is that women are subject to prejudice in their work environment. Some people still think that women personnels are valueless and poor-spirited, so managers usually don’t give women a chance to demonstrate their own abilities. This action will lead to the company may waste talents and women still can’t expose their abilities.
Therefore, measures must be taken by the government to change negative attitudes. Firstly, the government must introduce strict laws and regulations to minimize discriminations and stereotypes in workspace and companies. Secondly, the government should add gender equality into education, specifically study programmes for primary students as a measure which helps reduce gender discrimination in the future.
In conclusion, only by strict regulations and measures in the education, men and women can have equal promotion and remuneration in the work environment.
