It is argued that citizens should only eat sourced produce rather than imported food. I truly believe that government should not stop the import of nutrition. Not only can it be detrimental for economy, but it also bad for ordinary civils, because not every country is able to grow all the species of food due to specific location. The only one benefit I see is price dip because for local products there are no taxes, but this positive aspect obviously does not outweigh all the downsides.
On the one hand, by stopping the import of food, administration provokes the artificial deficit of certain products; therefore, citizens have less diversity in food choices, and the government can’t provide all the products to the market, because there is no infrastructure for it, so it causes a decrease in nutrient-dense products consumption. For instance, if a country has very cold climate, it will not be able to grow watermelons or any other type of fresh produce which requires a warm environment.
On the other hand, eliminating foreign groceries can lower the price of local food, because domestic producers must not pay any taxes to policymakers, so people pay less to the relatively same products. In addition, all the money that is earned by local producers goes into government coffers; therefore, the policymakers have more money to make the people’s lives better.
In conclusion, I claim that selling only domestic products is not a good idea, because of the decrease in food diversity, thereby exacerbating consumers’ lives.
