In the future, it is predicted that many routine white-collar jobs will be fully automated using artificial intelligence. Some people believe that this will lead to increased leisure time and a more prosperous society, while others argue that it will result in mass unemployment and social inequality. In this essay, I will discuss both views and give my own opinion.
There are several reasons why people believe that AI will lead to more leisure time and a more developed society. Firstly, although AI may replace routine white-collar jobs, it is also likely to create new employment opportunities in areas such as software engineering, AI engineering, and data analysis. A study by Stanford University found that 90 million jobs could be affected, while 170 million could be created due to the development of AI. Moreover, it can lead to a more prosperous society. In the near future, AI will contribute to the global economy by doing repetitive tasks that boost overall productivity and creating new tech industries.
On the other hand, many people fear that the widespread use of AI will lead to mass unemployment and greater social inequality. One concern is that AI could replace workers in many routine occupations, leaving people without jobs. This could particularly affect workers who lack the technical skills needed to find employment in new industries. Furthermore, the negative point about the development of AI is that people will degraded by using AI in every single aspect of their lives. For example, if students often use AI to write essays or solve problems for them, they may become less capable of thinking independently. As a result, people may lose their critical-thinking and communication skills which made them unique in society.
To sum up, it is clear why some people are not afraid of AI due to advantages such as new employment opportunities and a more prosperious society, while others fear because of mass unnemployment and social inequality. In my opinion, AI will have a positive impact on society due to new employment opportunities, but it will also affect how people behave.
