Some people argue that a university education is crucial for one to obtain a suitable job and a high income. This notion can be debatable as there are real life cases of successful entrepreneurs and world leaders that do not have a university degree. For instance, the reputable founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, is known to be a college drop-out.
Other than the various success stories, there are other reasons that may be accounted for the likehood of getting rewarding occupation. Individual traits, for example, can make a significant difference. Those who are being trusted more due to their honesty and dependability may earn more salary compared to their counterparts who do not have those characteristics.
That being said, I personally acknowledge the importance of having a university degree. When it comes to the general population, it is often required for one to submit their education transcript when applying to a full-time job. There is a certain expectation for many roles to have undergraduate degree first before they can start in those jobs. The differences particularly are pronounced between blue and white collar jobs, with the latter may require a degree more frequently.
Furthermore, a university education allows people to gain the knowledge that is relevant for career. Medical professionals, such as nurses and doctors, serve as good examples for this. The knowldge for the role is more niche and specialized, which a university education helps to offer.
In conclusion, although other individual characteristics may play a role in determining success, I concur that university education are essential at least during the beginning of the career. The reasons lie in both job requirement and the necessary knowledge for the occupation.
