In recent years, people can shop, work and communicate through the internet and even live without any meetings with others in person. While some argue that this trend has negative consequences, I am firmly of the opinion that it confers more advantages than disadvantages.
On the one hand, there are several demerits. The first and foremost one is associated with social isolation. To be more precise, life might be felt boring, if there is not a person who you can share your interests and hobbies. As a result, this situation can lead to feelings of loneliness and anxiety which in turn might have an impact on mental health. Another disadvantage of this statement is linked to job opportunities, as the individuals who have a preference to use internet to communicate rather than face-to-face contacts do not develop their communication skills.
Despite the arguments stated above, I still believe that internet brings about many merits. The primary advantage of living a large part of their life via internet has to do with convenience, as it provides the opportunity to work or communicate from the comfort of their home. For example, individuals can order food online which is fast and doesn’t require much effort. In addition to this, the people who prefer to work online without leaving their homes have the possibility to spend a great deal of time. This arrangement can also strengthen family bonds that in turn positively affect their productivity. Secondly, communicating online can make it easier to chat with close relatives or friends who live in remote areas. For instance, if the user’s close relative lives in another country, it is impossible to meet him in person every day.
To sum up, having discussed both positives and negatives of the internet, I am convinced that life mediated by the internet is of great importance because of the reasons aforementioned above.
