In the past, lectures were the primary method of teaching large groups of students. With recent advances in educational technology, some people now believe that attending lectures is unnecessary. I strongly disagree with this notion. I firmly believe that going to college or university and attending lectures is just as important as before, if not more so.
One major flaw in the argument that technology can replace lectures is that AI and online tools cannot fully replicate face-to-face teaching. When students attend lectures in person, they can learn directly from teachers, who guide them through complex concepts. While computers can indicate whether an answer is right or wrong, they cannot explain where a student made a mistake or clarify nuanced misunderstandings. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, most institutions conducted classes online via platforms like Google Meet or Zoom. Many students struggled to understand lessons in this format, resulting in significant learning gaps. Subjects such as mathematics are particularly difficult to teach online because they require step-by-step guidance and interaction that computers alone cannot provide. Moreover, teachers bring their own knowledge and experience to lectures, enriching the material from textbooks and other resources. This personalized insight cannot be replicated by technology. For these reasons, attending lectures in person remains essential for effective learning.
In addition, another critical point to consider is, teacher can simulated interest and it is an undeniable fact that interested simulated people tend to learn more. They can keep students focused on study. For instance, a student studying by alone may get bored and stop studying, through the students studying together, they can identify their problems and spend more time in study. What is more, teachers are role models of students. They are scholars in action. They are not only teaching academics subjects but also real-life experience. Finally, when students attend lectures, they have interaction with the teacher and other students, which gives them a sense of completion to study more.
Thus, I cannot support the notion that statement. It can be said that there is no doubt that modern technology has added many new ways to reach education to students, but attending lectures will always hold its importance.
