In earlier times, there were many distinctions that people could see when they traveled abroad, but now, they find more similarities. While there are some benefits to this shift, I believe that there are more drawbacks. Of course, there are several factors that are creating this situation; in this essay, I will mention some of those factors and provide some reasons why this situation is more detrimental rather than beneficial.
Firstly, governments are building foreign landmarks and creating different cultural atmospheres in the hope of attracting more tourists to their countries. For example, in China, they built a replica of the Eiffel Tower with a city around it, almost as big as the real one, leading to a mix-up of French and local culture. Moreover, migrants are also one of the main contributors to global cultural generalization. Secondly, in the past, the knowledge exchange was not that fast, and every civilization needed to come up with their own solutions or inventions, which is how every culture evolved and enriched. However, today’s worldwide rapid exchange of information is gradually allowing the population of Earth to develop one international culture.
One of the advantages that this global generalization could bring to humanity is that it might help people to understand each other, even if they are not from the same country. However, there are several undeniable negative impacts, such as a decrease in transnational tourism. The aforementioned globalization might actually mark the beginning of the end of international travel. Another example of the detrimental aspects of this change is that when it reaches its extreme level, it kills most of the pride in one’s birthplace and uniqueness in human lives.
In conclusion, these days, there are several factors that are contributing to this change. Despite having some benefits, global generalization is not a positive change but a negative one.
