Stepping out of one’s comfort zone for higher studies is one of the most challenging decisions a student can make in their life. Some argue that students benefit more from staying away from home, while others disagree. In my opinion, students should venture out on their own after graduating high school if they want to truly experience the world.
First and foremost, there are many reasons why living away from home while studying is advantageous compared to staying with parents. The primary reason is that students learn to be independent. Without their parents, they are compelled to manage everything, from household chores to professional responsibilities. There is no one to pamper them or remind them of deadlines. Consequently, their living situation forces them to become cautious, careful, and organized. Managing time, stress, and balancing personal and professional lives will be part of their daily routine. As a result, they will acquire valuable life skills through their everyday experiences, whether they like it or not. Navigating complicated circumstances independently will prepare them for real-world challenges.
Learning by doing is crucial for students. On the other hand, parents tend to be caring and supportive, which can impact a child’s growth through experiential learning. For instance, I am the eldest child in my family, naturally dedicated to familial ties. I not only care for my siblings but also play a key role in the decision-making process for my parents, acting as a second parent to my brothers and sister. In this context, I was expected to stay home until marriage and manage household affairs. However, I chose to leave home and pursue my dreams not out of selfishness, but because I believed it was important to take initiative and pave a path for my family toward broader horizons. With this belief, I was able to support my family both financially and educationally. By showing them the right path, sharing my experiences, and returning when necessary, I contributed significantly to our family’s joy and contentment. I would not have been able to maintain my parents’ satisfaction had I not left home in the first place.
