It is widely argued that the fast-food industry had a adverse influence on the environment, eating habits, and families. While I largely agree that availability of fast-food restaurants can make daily life easier, I believe it must be approached with great caution.
It is hard to argue with the idea that a great deal of household chores can put pressure on people, especially those who have children. In addition to working, cleaning, checking homework, parents should also cook for the whole family. These are exhausting routine responsibilities that can lead to burnout and a tense family environment. Not only does fast food give a fabulous opportunity to take a break from cooking, but it also allows to have a good time with family without breaking the bank.
However, excessive consumption of fast-food has a strong effect on health. It is difficult to deny that fast-food is high in calories due to the high amount of carbohydrates. Which leads to disease such as fatness and diabetes. Furthermore, fast-food marketing makes buyers think that getting a huge portion for just a bit more money is a smart choice. Consumers become accustomed to portions that far exceed their physiological needs. This may result in eating disorders as well as addiction.
Undoubtedly, fast-food restaurants generate a large amount of garbage such as disposable and food scraps. It is hard to comprehend the vast amount of methane released by decaying organic waste, a potent greenhouse gas that significantly heats the planet. Moreover, it is well known that fast-food is typically served in disposable packaging. If disposable tableware is convenient and hygienic for the buyer, for the planet it translates into mountains of untreated waste.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that the fast-food outlets give parents a break and save time, as well as creating enjoyable moments for children. However, to maximize these benefits, consumers should remember not to overuse fast food, as overconsumption can lead to serious health issues. We cannot ignore the cost to the planet, yet the unfortunate reality is that the fast-food industry will flourish as long as the demand for quick convenience exists.
