Nowadays, it is common to see households, where both parents have jobs that they must attend. Most of the time, the reason behind it is the inability of providing the family financially, when only one member works. In contrast, sometimes it is the individual’s own decision. While it is undeniable that the former reason is quite understandable and cannot be argued, on the other hand the issues this situation might cause should not be ignored.
First and foremost, in today’s world, it is reasonable if more than one person in a family works, considering the rising need for more salaries in order to achieve financial sustainability. However, both parents being occupied might affect children in a negative way. To clarify, when a child does not get to see their parents often, they tend to grow distant, this in turn can weaken the bond between the parents and their children. This might be harmful for the kid’s mental well-being, as the less time they spend with their parents, the more likely they are to feel lonely.
Furthermore, as we all know, children, especially adolescents who are left unsupervised can make wrong choices, since they are at a vulnerable phase of their lives. Therefore, not having their parents around to guide them can lead to unwanted consequences. Without parents’ supervision children can pick up bad habits usually because of peer pressure. For instance, a boy might fall into a bad company, as a result he can start smoking or gambling.
In conclusion, having working parents can have a negative impact on kids in many ways. Feeling abandoned, getting tempted to do terrible things at such a young age by their schoolmates or anyone they know, could be great examples of it.
