Residing in a country where you have to speak their unfamiliar language can cause very significant problem when dealing with the native people and might give problem while doing day to day activities. To begin with, when you converse in your own mother tongue on a different land it becomes difficult to make friends and get along with them. For instance, people who speak the local language might get along better with someone speaking their language. It also gives them a sense of belonging and familiarity. furthermore, when u come from a different ethnicity and you try to speak in the local language, there might be people who make jokes at you. This reduces your self esteem and the will to even try.
When u live away from your home, basic day to day activities that you are required to do also becomes a task in itself. when u want to travel, you might have difficulty using the public transportation because all instructions are given in their own language. for example, when I travelled to Paris, I didn’t know French. When I had to travel around the city the only means was the metro or the tram. All instructions or the station names were written in French. In that case in every step of the way I had to stop and ask someone, make them explain n then I would understand. additionally, it also becomes a task when u work in foreign county, u need to make day to day conversations with people.
