Band 7+: Living in big cities is bad for people's health. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some people say that it is dangerous for citizens’ well-being when they live in metropolises. From my perspective, I totally disagree with the statement because of the several reasons that I will discuss in greater detail in this essay.

There are a lot of reasons why I believe that living in big cities is better for human well-being. First of all, citizens can easily access top-notch healthcare facilities. This means that there are many large and modern hospitals, where people can be examined and treated with the most advanced equipment. For example, when citizens are faced with an emergency, an ambulance in metropolises can arrive faster than in rural areas because of traffic convenience. In this way, the patients will be rescued promptly.

Second, it is worth mentioning that employees who live in big cities generally have a higher income than those who live in rural areas. It means that they have significant financial resources to afford a lifestyle that ensures their well-being. For instance, inhabitants in metropolises usually participate in more healthy activities than those in rural areas, such as going to the gym or playing sports. This can help them improve their health and reduce the likelihood of getting bone and joint diseases. Thus, living and working in large cities promises a better lifestyle than living in small towns.

In conclusion, I believe that living in a large metropolis can bring positive impacts to dwellers’ health in some ways because of the reasons that I have mentioned above.

The majority of news being reported is bad news such as wars, famines, accidents and crime. Why do you think that is? Do you think the news should be a balance of both good and bad news?

Nowadays, it is often argued that most of the news reported by the media is negative, focusing on issues such as wars, crime, accidents and natural disasters. There are several reasons why this is the case, and I believe that news organisations should provide a better balance between positive and negative stories. One reason why […]

Many companies are now implementing a four-day workweek. Do the advantages of this new work structure outweigh the disadvantages?

Today, many parts of the world are introducing four-day workweeks for full-time workers instead of traditional five-day schedules. Although this shift might have some drawbacks, I still believe that its advantages are more significant. On the one hand, four-day workweeks can delay the completion of some tasks. Under a four-day workweek, employees have one fewer […]

Some people believe that teachers should focus mainly on teaching academic subjects, not to be responsible for teaching students important life skills. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There is a heated debate over whether academic institutions should place greater emphasis on teaching life than academic subjects. While I acknowledge the merits of both approaches, I personally believe that treating them as mutually exclusive would be overly simplistic, rather schools should harmonize them. Advocates of the importance of academic subjects cite various reasons […]

It is often argued that smartphone usage plays a significant role in modern society. Once students go to school, teachers have a greater influence on their intellectual and social development than parents. Do you agree or disagree with this belief? Write at least 250 words.

It is often believed that teachers have a greater influence on a child’s intellectual and social development than parents once they start school. While I agree that teachers greatly shape students’ academic skills, I also argue that parents still have a much bigger impact on their social and emotional growth. On the one hand, teachers […]

Some people believe the purpose of education is to prepare individuals to be beneficial to society. Others say the purpose of education is to achieve personal ambitions. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Education serves both individuals and the wider community, which has led to disagreement over which of these purposes should take priority. While educating people to make a meaningful contribution to society is undoubtedly important, I believe that greater emphasis should be placed on equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills required to pursue their own […]
