Nowadays, global fashion trends have strong effect on the way people dress. In this essay, I will provide some reasons behind this phenomenon and answer to the question ‘is this a positive or negative development’.
One main key factor to the strong influence of global fashion on people’s dress is social media. I mean that photos and videos of famous actresses or celebrities are viewing by millions of people in just a couple of minutes. And people want to dress and look like them. Moreover, the development of online shopping is also key reason. As people can shop easily and find all kind of dresses online, global fashion become more popular. Furthermore, people are travelling more and countries are becoming interconnected which causes more shared fashion ideas. People, especially young generations, are eager to express some kind of modern clothes.
Although there are some advantages of this trend, such us an increase in creativity and also in people’s understanding about other cultures, disadvantages outweigh advantages. For example, it results loss of some tradition. In other words, if people dress only via global fashion trends and avoid the way of their ancestors, many past clothes will dissapear. For instance, in Central Asia countries, adras was very common among women in 20th centuries. However now, less than 5% of women dress it.
In conclusion, global fashion trends are affecting people’ clothing with social media and online shopping. In my opinion, this is the positive development because it results to loss of tradition and past clothes.
