Human values called into questioning because of the depletion of traditional values and immersing in displays of affluence, so it is argued that individuals move toward materialistic lifestyle. Although I admit that there are still remained bunch of values, I believe that nowadays, most societies shift toward this trend.
On the one hand, some non-material aspects of life are still maintaining. Firstly, environmental consciousness and social responsibility, both of which are crucial, are supported by many individuals and institutions. Therefore, by spread of the notion of sustainability and ethical consumption, transcending satisfaction wealth acquisitions. Secondly, movements toward minimalism and mindful living can indicate that a significant portion of society is striving to balanced-lifestyle. For example, in most countries, people participate in recycling and reusing prodcuts because they understand the value of ethical consumption.
On the other hand, materialistic tendencies are overshadowing the most parts of communities. Firstly, the influence of pervasive adversiting and social media is undeniable. Hence, many people are exposed to messages that equate success with material wealth and luxury goods. For instance, some online platforms such as Instagram and Facebook allow individuals to showcase their possessions and lifestyles to global audiences, increasing the number of people who imitate their behavior. Secondly, modern approach of the economy encourages consumerism through online shopping and credit systems, enhancing the access to vast array of products and services. Thus, not only can foster a mindset of accumulate products, but also induce immediate satisfying over prioritize longer-term aspirations and financial responsibility.
In conclusion, there are some ethical values that important for people. However, in my opinion, most societies are undergoing this shift.
