It is often argued in many cities that a four-day working week can achieve a better work-life balance, while several economists think that national productivity and economic growth will be reduced. This essay will examine these issues and propose potential solutions.
One of the main benefits of a shorter workweek is a better work-life balance. The majority of people work five or six days a week, and on weekends they want to just relax, but they have families and housework. It gives us a strong reason for a four-day workweek, because with this type of working week, they can have a work-life balance, spend more time with family and have more time for their own life. Another benefit is higher empoyee productive. When people have a good rest, they work harder because they are full of energy and less stressed.
On the other hand, is some drawbacks that can have a negative effect on the economy. One of the main issues is that some companies need to work 5-6 days a week, because of the year plan or just everyday needs. Imagine that on your weekends you want to go to the restaurant with your family, but you can not because all people in your city have a four-day workweek, and all shops and parks are closed. This is a big drawback for the country’s economic growth.
Personally, I completely agree with this point of view because work-life balance is key for economic growth. For instance, when my mom had a six-day workweek, she was very tired and had a lot of stress, that impact on our relationships and her productivity. However, she could not have a good rest on her one weekend because of housework. However, when she started to work a four-day workweek, she had more time for family and her own tasks, her work productivity improved and right now she is not just an employee, she is a director of the company.
In conclusion, although a four-day workweek can create some difficulties for some industries and reduce work hours, I believe that the benefits are greater and can improve well-being of employees and do them more productive.
