Over the last few years, it has become much more common for people to visit the nature. It is said that ecotourism have a great number of benefits. However, there are some disadvantages as well. In this essay, an attempt will be made to discuss both sides and draw some conclusions based on my personal point of view.
Primarily, one significant advantage of ecotourism is the ethical local income. To be more precise, it is likely that it creates sustainable jobs for indigenous guides and local business owners, ultimately reducing the financial incentive to engage in poaching. Furthermore, another benefit of ecotourism is the environmental awareness. The basis for this view is that when urban travelers visit places such as parks, forest and other natural areas, they might learn about fragile ecosystems and global warming. As a result, not only does it help to raise individual’s awareness of environmental issues, but it also encourages them to adopt more responsible attitude towards the environment.
On the other hand, increased pollution surge is believed to be one of the disadvantages of ecotourism. In other words, it is a fact that even low-impact tourists generate plastic waste, sewage, as well as carbon emissions from travelling to remote areas, which could significantly affect the quality of air in those areas in the long-term. However, pollution caused by ecotourism can be minimized through effective management and sustainable practices. For instance, government restrict the number of visitors, provide waste- disposal facilities and encourage the use of low- emission transport. As a consequence, tourism revenue can support conservation efforts while limiting pollution in fragile natural areas.
In conclusion, although there are some negatives such as pollution surge. I personally believe that in terms of ethical local income and environmental awareness, the benefits of ecotourism outweigh the above-mentioned drawbacks.
